One of the biggest joy is when you are thousands miles away but you can get the same flavor of Bengali food at your home in abroad.
Nothing can compare with this taste how this bengali prawn malai curry does. This heirloom recipe I have learnt from my mom. Actually this dish is came from our Indian distant neighboring country Malaysia and hence the name came from. It’s name of malai means cream. This nutty, creamy flavor is the main content fir this recipe. For this you can add cream. If you don’t have this then you can use corn flour in a milk and add with the soup. It will also help for thickening. The best part is using of ghee and cream make this fish extremely delicious. In some parts of India like Goan and Kerala also has some recipes which resembles to this amazing spectacular prawn dish which is fit for royalty. This dish is popular for weddings
This prawn malai curry is one of the delicious dish is in bengali cuisine. When you will cook it’s aroma will spread all over your house which will make you the feel of homely heaven food at in your kitchen. The most favorite part is prawn is very easy to cook and it’s take less time. The taste is smooth, silky and tasty with cinnamon and green cardamom.
Let’s check out the ingredients:
12 big prawns
1 potato cut into cube (medium size)
Salt to taste
Kashmere red chili powder 1 tbsp
Turmeric 1tsp
1tbsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
Garam masala: whole spices:
2 cardamom
1 half inch cinnamon stick
1 bay leaves
Coriander leaves or cilantro 1/2 cup
Tomato 1/2
Coconut milk 2 cups
Shredded coconut 1/2 cup
1 big red onion
3 garlic clove paste
Half tsp ginger paste
Cooking method:
Firstly marinate prawn with salt, turmeric and red chili powder. Then fry in a oil for 2 to 3 minutes both side. Then set aside prawn.
Tips: Don’t overcook prawn it will make it harder.
Then in a pan fry garam masala, after then add onion and fry until translucent. Now add ginger garlic paste fry for 1 minute. It’s the time to add all spices along with 1/2 cup water. Cook all masala for 2 minutes. Then add 1 cup water and cover the lid, cook for 5 to 8 minutes in medium heat. Now add coconut 🥥 milk and also shredded coconut and cook for 5 minutes.
You can also use fresh coconut 🥥 and make the malai or milk. I used here can coconut milk.
Then add all prawns and cover the lid. Cook it for further 5 minutes. In between add coriander leaves, green chili. Voila.
